Mr. Shahid Karim has over 25 years of professional experience, with a strong background in audit practice both in Pakistan and United Kingdom. Shahid worked with international audit practice firms including PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in Milton Keynes and Ernst & Young (EY) in Luton, UK. Shahid completed his audit articleship with A.F.Ferguson & Co. Chartered Accountants, Islamabad office.

Shahid also worked in London with international financial services institutions including JP Morgan Chase, Royal Bank of Scotland, and Bank of New York Mellon, where he specialized in Financial/Regulatory Reporting, Risk Management, and Audit/SOX Compliance.

Shahid is a Fellow Chartered Accountant (FCA) from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP), as well as a fellow member (FCCA) of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), and a law graduate (LLB).

Mr. Tariq Bakhtawar is a Chartered Accountant (FCA) and Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) with over two decades of diverse experience spanning the industry, development sector, regulators, and running his own consultancy.

One of his achievements was the establishment of the Fraud Investigation Unit at the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan, where he played a key role in investigating high-profile white-collar crimes, preventing the siphoning of shareholder wealth, and contributing to significant financial recoveries. In addition to his work in fraud investigations, he developed and implemented a Risk-Based Supervision model at SECP, introducing the Supervisory Ladder and Early Warnings framework to strengthen regulatory oversight and enhance market stability.

As Chairman of MEFIN (Mutual Exchange Forum on Inclusive Insurance), he led a regional initiative that brought together regulators from Asia, including Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Nepal, Mongolia, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan, to support inclusive insurance as a strategy for poverty reduction in the region.

Mr. Muhammad Bilal Qureshi is currently associated with the Audit Oversight Board as Secretary.

Bilal has more than 8 years of work experience that includes both audit practice and industry. Bilal completed articleship and worked in managerial capacity at A.F.Ferguson & Co. Chartered Accountants (A member firm of PwC Network). Furthermore, Bilal also worked for a leading Power Sector Company as Manager – Budgeting, Reporting and Compliance.

Bilal is a member of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP) and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.

Bilal was awarded ICAP Gold Medal by ICAP for securing highest marks in the subject of Corporate Laws in ICAP Final examinations. Bilal, also has to his credit, three national distinctions in ACCA Professional Level exams (Top ACCA affiliate, Advanced Audit and Assurance and Business Analysis exams).

Mr. Asif Ali joined the Audit Oversight Board in February 2018 as Quality Assurance Reviewer. In this role he is responsible for conducting quality assurance and quality control reviews of registered audit firms, developing risk methodologies for audit oversight in Pakistan and conducting inspections and investigations for AOB.

Asif Ali is an associate member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP) and fellow member of the Pakistan Institute of Public Finance Accountants (PIPFA). He is also a lifetime member of the Lahore Tax Bar Association.

Asif Ali has more than six years of experience relating to statutory and non-statutory audits, review engagements and related compliance/assurance assignments for entities across various industries.

Mr. Jawwad Ismail is currently associated with the Audit Oversight Board as Senior Quality Assurance Inspector. His core responsibilities include quality control reviews, developing risk methodologies for audit oversight in Pakistan and conducting inspections and investigations for AOB.

Jawwad has more than 8 years experience in audit and assurance. Previously he completed his articleship and worked in managerial capacity at A.F.Ferguson & Co. Chartered Accountants where he was invloved in statutory and non-statutory audits, review engagements, compliance and other assurance assignments for entities across various industries.

Jawwad is a qualified Chartered Accountant (ACA) from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP).

Mr. Muhammad Adnan

Muhammad Adnan joined AOB in 2019 and is currently associated in a role of Quality Assurance Inspector. He is responsible for conducting inspections and investigations of the audits of PICs, assessing audit firms’ quality control structures, and developing risk-based methodologies for audit oversight in Pakistan. His role includes reviewing the work of the QAD of ICAP and inspecting audits to ensure adherence to auditing and quality standards.

With over 10 years of experience in audit and assurance, Mr. Adnan previously worked with KPMG Taseer Hadi & Co. Chartered Accountants, where he was involved in statutory audits and review engagements across various industries. He is a Chartered Accountant (ACA) and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan.

Mr. Muhammad Zamir

IT Senior Quality Assurance Inspector & Manager

Mr.Muhammad Zamir joined the Audit Oversight Board as IT Senior Quality Assurance Inspector & Manager (IT) in June 2022.

He has over 6 years of diversified experience in performing multiple assignments relating to statutory and non-statutory audits and has an in-depth working knowledge of IT Risk governance, security, and audits. He has extensive experience in auditing and advisory in various domains including Telecom, Financial Sector, and Higher Education. Mr. Zamir has worked in A. F. Ferguson & Co. and served in the Technology Advisory and Risk Assurance department. A. F. Ferguson is a member firm of PwC (PricewaterhouseCoopers).

Mr. Zamir has done his master’s in software engineering from NUCES University Islamabad, and he is also a Certified Information System Auditor (CISA).

Mr. Abdul Ahad serves as a Quality Assurance Inspector at the Audit Oversight Board, where he drives key initiatives to enhance audit quality and regulatory compliance. His responsibilities include conducting in-depth quality control reviews, developing advanced risk assessment methodologies, and leading comprehensive inspections and investigations of registered audit firms to ensure adherence to the highest standards.

Mr. Abdul Ahad brings over 7 years of robust experience in audit and assurance. He completed his articleship at Grant Thornton Anjum Rehman, developing a solid foundation in auditing principles. Following this, he served for two years in the Quality Control Review department of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan, enhancing his expertise in quality assurance. Abdul then advanced to managerial roles at KPMG Lower Gulf and Crowe Hussain Chaudhury & Co., where he skillfully led a variety of audit engagements, encompassing statutory and non-statutory audits, compliance reviews, and assurance services, delivering exceptional insights to clients across diverse sectors.

Mr. Abdul Ahad is a Chartered Accountant (ACA) from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan.

Mr. Immad Hasan is currently working with Audit Oversight Board as Assistant Manager Legal.

Mr. Immad Hasan possesses extensive experience in representing clients and handling a diverse range of legal matters before various Civil Courts, Honorable High Courts, and special Tribunals. His experience primarily relates to corporate, civil, criminal, banking, and constitutional matters, having advised and represented numerous individuals and organizations in these areas.

Mr. Immad Hasan holds a Bachelor’s degree (LLB Hons.) from Lahore, which he obtained through the external program offered by the University of London. He is a licensed advocate of the High Courts and has worked in several law firms in Lahore, where he provided legal advice and consultancy services to clients in both private and public sectors.

Mr. Umar Ahmad

Mr. Umer Ahmad is an Associate Member of ICAP with over 5 years of experience in audit practice. He joined the Audit Oversight Board (AOB) in September 2024 as a Quality Assurance Inspector. In this role, he is responsible for reviewing the work performed by the Quality Assurance Board, as well as evaluating information submitted by audit firms to the AOB.

He completed his articleship at Grant Thornton Anjum Rahman, where he gained extensive experience in statutory audits, reviews, and other assurance engagements across various sectors.

Mr. Umer has also worked remotely with international audit firms, including serving as an Audit Manager at ANK Global Chartered Accountants in UAE and as an Audit Supervisor at Stantons International in Australia.
